S2’s Wall Graphics Tips: Photo Choices

16Dec 2014

Want to spice up your space? Consider adding a wall mural. Wall graphics are a bold and cost effective way to make any space more inviting. Just as “pop color” accent walls enjoy popularity among designers, wall murals make a space much more interesting.

For businesses, wall graphics are a great way to highlight your brand and set the tone for your space before speaking a single word to clients. So, what if you don’t have a mural image ready to go? That’s what we’re addressing in today’s post: how to find photographs for wall graphics.

Portland business owners may not be aware of the array of resources for finding great wall graphic images. While many wall graphic sites provide selected graphics to choose from, we offer our customers more creative choices.

  • Your company’s logo or photos from company events, etc. File resolution is a critical element so if your photo is marginal, we will let you know before moving forward.
  • Royalty free images from an array of websites. For instance, you can search for pictures at Google Images, being sure to select “labeled for commercial use” under the “usage rights” dropdown. This ensures that all of your results are appropriately licensed.
  • Royalty images from sites like IStock; before you purchase, call us so we can advise if the image and image quality works for your project.

With all three options, we can combine image pieces to create a layout that fits your space’s measurements.

Want to know how it will look? Send us a “straight on” photograph of the actual area. We will create a preview to give you a good idea of how the selected image or images will look in your location.

When designing a wall mural, we have a few suggestions to maximize the result:

  • Image resolution. Choose the highest resolution you can afford.
  • Overall impact. Are you looking for a soothing impression, or do you want to make a bold statement? Photo choice will go a long way in creating an ambiance; make sure it’s the mood you desire.
  • Furniture, door, and window placement. When creating a wall graphic, it’s easy to focus on the wall itself and forget about what will go in front of and around it. Make sure you consider these elements in your photo selection process. We can work around windows, reception desks, copiers and other factors if you provide this information in your description of the space. (This is one reason why photographs of the area are such a great idea!)

We will ask you what the longevity you want for the mural is: a more permanent mural will require a more permanent adhesive. A short term statement can use a less aggressive adhesive material. We have both and will advise you accordingly. Wall graphics make for a BOLD first impression. Your customers will look forward to seeing that striking image every time they walk through your door.
